Gili Eco Trust #1: Initial thoughts

I decided to join this focus group because I am interested in environmental issues around the world. I also joined a service related to environmental issues last year, but it was a teacher-leaded activity, so I am really excited to be a part of a more student-leaded focus group. During the first two sessions, I’ve worked with students from different grades getting to know each other and learning about this focus group. I was inspired by the initiative members who were leading and hosting the sessions in the sense that they were confident about the things they were explaining and made all the newcomers comfortable being in this group. I believe that my strength is to deeply research topics that I find interesting. During the G10 Critical challenge project, I really enjoyed conducting both primary and secondary research.  I hope I can contribute to this GC through my strengths and I also hope to develop some areas that I am not good at.  I sometimes still get a bit anxious when talking about something in front of people that involves many academic terms as English is my second language. By observing and learning from others, I want to be more confident in discussing global issues in front of many people.  At the end of the year, I hope that I will have gained a lot of knowledge about the issue in Gili Island and also environmental issues around the world in general. I am also hoping to gain planning and initiating skills through the planning of events.
