I was really excited to join this club since I always enjoyed playing badminton as entertainment with my friends. I had never learned badminton as a sport, so I am looking forward to gaining some practical skills of badminton as well as collaboration skills. Since I was completely new to this club, most of the people I met in the first session were new to me including the coach. They were all friendly and we cheered each other up during the basic training such as planks, wall sits, etc. Because of the diverse nature of the club, there were members from 3rd grades to students in our age. My friends and I spent a lot of time learning the basic skills with the 3rd graders as we were all new to this sport. It was an interesting and fruitful experience to work with the lower grade students as I learned how to effectively communicate with them. In the latter half of the session, we got the chance to participate in a doubles rotation practice. During this activity, I gained many collaboration skills as I worked with my friends to come up with many strategies to win the game. We discussed the area in the court each of us should be responsible for and taught each other the skills we are good at. I had a sense of achievement when we were able to win. I realized that my strength was to stay resilient and keep trying. I want to keep this in mind throughout all the sessions I will have. I still feel that I haven’t gotten out of my comfort zone that I tend to stay and work with the people I am familiar with. I want to try collaborating with the people I haven’t talked to before and absorb new skills from them. In terms of practical skills, I want to work on the smashes as I tend to continue long rallies and I want to learn how to score a point.
