A week before the performance, we’ve faced a huge challenge that we had never expected to encounter; due to an unforeseen issue, our teacher informed us that he couldn’t be in the rehearsals/performance. Moreover, we happened to perform without 2 of the members. Since our teacher was always the one who conducted and gave us instructions, we were left not knowing what to do. However, we managed to schedule our practices by ourselves, give advice to each other in order to better our performance. We were able to stay resilient and managed to adapt to the change. For one of the pieces, because we did not have a conductor, we really had to pay attention to each other trying to stick together on the rhythm. I think this turned out to be a very valuable experience as we had never understood the importance of listening to each other’s parts if it wasn’t for this obstacle that we faced. We practiced till the very last minute, in the dressing room, and at that moment, I could feel everyone’s passion for the performance and I loved that feeling. There were members who were nervous, but we managed to calm each other down.
The show itself inspired me in many ways as well. We had a chance to listen to the performance of other school music clubs, which was both very moving and motivating. I enjoyed listening to all of the performances and it was a memorable night. After our own performances, we were all relieved and we felt a sense of accomplishment. It was also an emotional moment as we had been preparing for the performance for a long time. Performing in front of an audience is always special; it makes us nervous but excited at the same time. I hope we will have another opportunity to perform in front of an audience soon.
