- What are you most proud of this year?
- I am most proud of myself for being able to manage my time and balance the study hours for several subjects. Even when tests for several subjects clashed in the same week, I eventually found my way through to prepare for each subject. There will be mock exams and more essays to write in the second half of the year, and I hope I can continue developing my time management skills both for my academic achievements and my mental health.
- Give an example of something you have found challenging but have been able to overcome or find strategies to help you beat the challenge.
- One of the challenges that I faced during this term was to conduct an interview with the head of the subject departments as part of our global concern group project. Even though some of the departments were quite unwilling to accept the interview at first, we were able to come up with better interview questions and ideas/phrases to use during the interview. Our paraphrasing skills and the knowledge about the professionalism that we learned during pse classes were very helpful during the interview.
- What subjects would you like to focus on more? Why?
- I would like to focus more on Geography since it covers many concepts and I want to gradually start preparing for the exam. I also want to keep spending some time on English as I still feel like I need extra time compared to others to complete the tasks. I especially want to improve my writing skills because it is relevant to any other subjects and I believe that improving them can help me in many areas.
- What are you most proud of outside your academic subjects? (Think about your attitude, activities/service, friendships, etc)
- I am proud of myself for being able to proactively participate in global concern groups, service groups, etc. I also feel like I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone by becoming one of the leadership members in the service and also performing and singing in front of an audience as speaking/doing something in from of people had always been something that I was afraid of. I am also proud of myself for committing to all the activities every week including, TEDx, orchestra, local service, and global concern group.
- Given your experience so far, what advice would you give yourself for the rest of the year?
- After having experiences of expressing myself and taking leadership, I have overcome some of the fear of talking in front of many people. However, I still tend to overthink what others will think about me and sometimes end up hesitating to do something that might have led me to something very meaningful. I just want to remind myself not to be afraid of being wrong so that I can step out of my comfort zone and do anything I find interesting.
- What one goal would you set yourself for 2022?
- Keeping a healthy sleeping schedule! Reflecting back on the first half of the year, there were countless times when I sacrificed my sleep hours for my assignments, however, this always had a negative impact afterwards, which is that it made me unmotivated during class hours. To avoid this, I really need to discipline myself by setting a certain time frame for entertainment so that it will not push my studying schedule.
