Chamber club #2

For the past few weeks, we’ve been working as a team towards the upcoming performance, “wavelength”. We’ve been rehearsing almost every day including the weekends. These rehearsals reminded me once again of the importance of paying attention to what others are playing while playing our own parts. Especially for pieces where we collaborate with the percussion club and the glee club, we have to be extra careful because of the distance that could create a lag. I made sure that I, first of all, pay attention to the people on my part and then the cello or parts that are playing the melody. Our practices also included soundcheck and dress-up rehearsals making sure that we could get used to the environment. We practised everything from how to behave in front of an audience, when to bow, when to queue backstage etc. I quite liked this pleasant feeling of tension before the performance as it reminded me of the days when I performed in my old school and it also made me feel like a real musician. For the past few rehearsals, all of the members have been taking part in suggesting improvements that we can make to create better music. I feel like I am now more comfortable suggesting ideas in front of the members. However, because the performance is coming up very soon, we are now more conscious when our members are absent, which sometimes could create a very tense atmosphere. I also felt a bit frustrated when everyone wasn’t in the rehearsals just before the performance; I tried my best to kindly remind people to come to rehearsals. I am enjoying this feeling of everyone practising together towards a performance together and am looking forward to the performance a lot.
